Badbeat 20 Recap & Results
By Megan Parducho on June 10, 2016
Badbeat 20 presented by Bamma USA was an action-packed mma event filled with knockout power and exciting first round finishes. With a total of seven fights, five ended by way of KO or TKO in Round 1 and another ended in Round 1 with an armbar submission.
Two Bamma USA Champions entered the cage for the final bout of the night. Chris Culley (19-13), current Featherweight Champion, moved up one weight division to challenge Lightweight Champion Chris Saunders (15-7) in Badbeat 20’s main event. This was the only fight to make it past the first round, and fans were treated to a 25 minute stand up war that would ultimately determine who walked away with the Bamma USA Lightweight title.
Saunders came prepared to work. Throughout all five rounds, he threw a number of strikes and pinned Culley against the cage. But as early as Round 1 it became evident that Culley had a much different approach. He remained calm despite the constant blitz of attacks from Saunders and instead threw calculated techniques. The effectiveness of Culley’s game plan landed more devastating blows and earned him the Majority Decision win over Saunders. He is now the first fighter to hold the Bamma USA title in two weight classes – Featherweight and Lightweight.
With nearly all the bouts ending in less than three minutes, Badbeat 20 could easily be mistaken for a highlight reel of explosive finishes. If you missed the action, you can catch the event replay on FloCombat.com.
